Dismissals
In accordance with Florida laws, employment at Eckerd College is at will. This means that Eckerd College may terminate this relationship at any time.
If it becomes apparent at any time during the probationary period that the employee is not satisfactorily fulfilling job responsibilities, his/her employment will be terminated in accordance with College policies as well as federal and state law.
Procedures for Corrective Action
One or more of the following actions may be taken when a violation related to a position has occurred (in any order):
Verbal Warning
The supervisor will review the facts with the employee.
The employee will be told what action will be taken if another violation occurs.
The Supervisor will forward a written record of the verbal warning to the Human Resources Office to be maintained in the employee's confidential personnel file. The confidential personnel file may be reviewed by the employee.
Written Warning
The supervisor will review the facts with the employee.
The employee will be told what action will be taken if another violation occurs.
A written record of the meeting will be prepared. The employee will be given a copy of the document. The supervisor will forward a record of the written warning to the Human Resources Office and the Career Center to be maintained in the employee’s confidential personnel file. The confidential personnel file may be reviewed by the employee.
If the employee disagrees with the record or with the decision, he may ask for a meeting with the next higher-level administration and may have an advisor present (a fellow employee in the department or another College employee who may help in clarifying the action). The supervisor should also be present at the meeting.
Dismissal
The employee will be terminated from employment with the College.
Terminable Offenses
Employees who commit any of the following offenses may be terminated. This list is not exhaustive:
Excessive tardiness
Excessive absence or unexcused absences
Unsatisfactory job performance
Dishonesty, theft, fraud, etc.
Moral turpitude
Engaging in sexual harassment of a student or another employee
Incompetence
